Estelí, Nicaragua

Nicaragua’s coffee growing region is a stunning, forested area in the northwest part of the country.

Vega is committed to sourcing coffee that is cultivated in a manner that respects the earth. We work directly with cooperatives and farmers that grow high quality coffee without the use of agrochemicals. Our offerings feature an exquisite array of coffee varietals, including bourbon, typica, caturra, and maragogype, all shade-grown in small, family lots.

THE ROASTERY

Vega’s roastery is located in Estelí, Nicaragua’s third largest city and a main commercial hub. Situated in the city center just one block from the Pan-American Highway, the roastery is easily accessed by farmers who travel regularly to Estelí from the nearby coffee growing regions in the mountains of northern Nicaragua.

Our facility regularly hosts training days, during which anywhere from 50-100 local farmers come to learn about the process, taste coffee and sign up to participate in training and roasting sessions.

Being adjacent to the Pan-American Highway also allows us to get our coffee to the capital of Managua for export easily and quickly, so your coffee arrives to your door at peak freshness.

"I have learned a great deal with Vega. My knowledge of coffee used to be limited to farming and milling. Now, I know all about the added value that processing brings, such as roasting, different flavors, cupping, and packaging."

-Elda Velasquez

THE PEOPLE

Vega works with a number of cooperatives that collectively represent 4,000 farmers. Small-scale family farms, many run by women, are the foundation of Nicaragua’s coffee industry.

Since opening our roastery in 2015, we have worked with a core group of five women who lead our farmer-roasting team. In one short year, the team has grown to 20 to accommodate the demand for Vega Coffee.

Dedicated to expanding their knowledge of coffee for the benefit of their communities, our team has trained for countless hours to learn the intricacies of coffee production, from selecting beans to roasting to cupping to packaging. Every bag of Vega Coffee is signed by a farmer-roaster, a mark of the time, care and personal investment each member has put into the new coffee experience we are crafting together.
